True to the tradition and philosophy of hospice, Friends of Hospice Ottawa provides care and support to individuals and their families at no cost to them. Although we do not charge for our services, we do incur operating costs, and must rely heavily upon the generosity of our donors.

65% of the operating budget of Friends of Hospice Ottawa comes from donations from individuals, businesses or organizations in the communities we serve.

Making a difference is possible. In order to continue to offer our services to the community, we need your help.

5. Planned Giving

As the name implies, planning ahead to leave a gift in your will is one the most thoughtful ways to help others and to leave a lasting impact on your community. There are many kinds of planned gifts such as simple bequests in a will or estate plan, annuities, charitable trusts, pooled income, life insurance and life estates.

A planned gift is a special legacy for the future, while also providing personal tax benefits. These gifts are arranged in the present, usually within an individual's estate or financial plan, and actualized at a later date. Examples of planned gifts include: bequests, life insurance, securities, charitable gift annuities, and gifts of personal and real property.

We would be delighted to meet with you to discuss Planned Giving and any of the legacy options you might consider. Please call Ruth Cameron, Director of Event Planning and Financial Management at (613) 591-6002 Ext: 27 to discuss this or to arrange a meeting.

9.Donations to our Capital Campaign

Friends of Hospice Ottawa has embarked on a significant and time sensitive Capital Campaign to acquire a property to house our core community support programs and eventual residential hospice in a location that best meets the needs of the community we serve, Ottawa West.

We are in the process now of actively seeking gifts from individuals so that we may purchase a property in Ottawa West that is ideal for our immediate and long term needs. The acquisition of a site will firstly allow our team of staff and volunteers to expand and consolidate key community support programs, including in-home support, day away hospices, transportation, caregiver and bereavement support, and training and education, permitting greater reach to those who need support while living and coping with a life threatening illness, and ultimately for those who are no longer able to receive or give care in their own homes.

If you can relate to our mission and values, and are in a position to contribute a lifetime gift, please call Kathryn Logsdail-Downer, Executive Director, at (613) 591-6002 Ext: 24. She will be happy to meet with you to discuss this important step in our evolution and in our expanded ability to serve our community better.

Thank You

Friends of Hospice Ottawa is pleased to accept donations of cash or donations through cheques, Visa or MasterCard, or online. As a registered charity, Friends of Hospice Ottawa issues tax receipts for donations of more than $20.
